Felt inspired to try this after a bike ride. Done with blue ink, white crayon, colored pencil and watercolor pencil. Added water later at home.

painting in the park

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

A painting I did earlier this month has made its way on the web. While doing the initial ink sketch at the Mass Ave. end of Southwest Corridor Park, Jennifer Leonard, who participates in the upkeep of both the park and its website, ran into me while walking her dog. She asked to see the finished piece, and now it is up on their site! What a nice way to connect with my new Boston community through making artwork.

more sketching… (click image to go to the sketch page)

at home with sketch journal

It’s a peaceful yet active way to be out among nature and fellow living creatures. How often do you ever just sit and stare at one location for half and hour, or an hour, or longer, while people carry on rushing by around you?

I’ve even had some interesting encounters because of it. I met an artist named Abdellah RamRam while doing the Back Bay station sketches, and it was very inspiring hearing him speak about his work. You can actually hear a online interview here:

Sketch Journal

Here’s something for a change of pace:

I’ve still got backed up puppet and animation clip stuff to post, but thought this might be a refreshing addition in the meantime.

Also, does anyone know how to solve this puzzle? : When I scan the original drawings, the scanner won’t pick up the subtle light blue washes and instead registers them as pure white. (In the image above, the middle part of the sky is supposed to be light blue.) I’m guessing it’s because that color is verging on non-photo blue, but according to Wikipedia, scanners are supposed to pick it up. Maybe my little HP just isn’t powerful enough for that kind of detail.
