Weekend in Providence
Sunday, October 8th, 2006Went home to Providence for Friday night and Saturday before heading back to outer Boston this morning to continue animation. Somehow I always manage to pack that Saturday way too full of activities and end up staying up much too late, but it was worth it.
One of the highlights of the evening was going to see an exhibit at the RISD museum, something I hardly ever do, but this was a rare and very worthwhile change pace from what I usually see there. This show was so inspirational, as small and simple as it was (though the scale of the pieces were certainly not small!, I guess I mean small in quantity). There are two parts to the show, one called Wunderground, displaying independently screen-printed music posters from Providence 1995 to the present, and the second part, called Shangrilala Land (this was the really inspirational one), an installation of oversized and colorful sculptures… sculptures that are more like 3-D mixed media collages, some interactive, some using elements of sound, light, video projection, live plants, and motion-sensor triggered movements. It’s all got me thinking about my kinetic art whirigig ideas again!
